Documenting a small journey
Hello everyone!
This would be my first article of 2025. I hope everyone is having a great start to the year. It's been a long time since I wrote an article. It's because I felt like I was experiencing brain fog, which I still feel as I write this article.
So, I thought, why not document my journey at an institution where I spent the last 3–4 months and share a happy moment from my life?
As I had doubts about my English speaking skills publicly, I joined an English language school, The English Academy, to enhance them. I took one of their courses called "Spoken English." It was a three-month-long course, and the instructors really helped me overcome the hesitation while speaking. I believe I can now speak more fluently than before I joined the course. I communicated with my classmates regularly, both inside and outside the class. I also received feedbacks from my instructors after every class.
There was a free chat club, which is a benefit of enrolling in any course at the institute. In the chat club, students from different batches participated in speaking sessions conducted in various formats. These included debates on thought-provoking topics, unscripted speeches on random subjects, and IELTS cue card practice, as many students joined to achieve a good band score in IELTS. However, I joined just to improve my speaking skills, whether for public speaking, one-on-one conversations, or group discussions.
A speaking competition was also held in collaboration with The British Council, Bangladesh, and The English Academy. It had only two rounds, as the number of participants was not very large.
The first round was among classmates or peers from the same batch, where only one student was selected for the second round. The second round was a competition between the toppers from 16 batches. While it wasn’t a very tough competition, it was definitely worth participating in.
I successfully made it to the second round and secured first place in the competition! I was awarded a crest for being the topper in the course exams, along with certificates and some gifts as well.
